Launch of Chasing the Tide Illustration Competition
Cleveleys Seafront Partnership together with Fylde Community Arts are proud to launch the third and final art illustration competition in the Chasing the Tide series, with the last part of the story, Spiritworld.
Read the text and imagine how the story could be illustrated and then create your own original drawing to show others what you envisage. When the competition closes, the entries will be judged and the winning pictures will be reproduced in the final printed version of the Spiritworld book.
The winning illustrators will be presented with their prizes and completed versions of the book showing their artwork, at Cleveleys Sea Festival on Sunday 4 July 2010.
Dear Illustrator, This is the 3rd and last illustration competition of the trilogy, which started through the first of my stories for children “Dreamworld” in 2008. The second part of the trilogy “Witchworld” was completed in 2009 and both books were published with the winning illustrations and launched in Cleveleys.
The last competition in the trilogy is“Spiritworld” which follows the theme of the sea around Cleveleys. All the stories are fictional fantasy, although they draw on real elements in and around the Cleveleys shoreline. Spiritworld brings the story of the hero and heroine into the present and we hope that this year the last story will entice more local residents of Blackpool Wyre & Fylde districts to enter.
This year for the first time the competition has been opened to children from the age of eleven as well as adults. The Cleveleys Seafront Partnership is keen to develop more interest in the beautiful new promenade at Cleveleys, and consolidate it as an area that can be used by local community groups and individuals as a Peoples Promenade as well as a tourist attraction.
Through these competitions we hope to establish an interest in creative art and give local people a chance of having their talents recognised in a meaningful way. So far in the two books that have been completed, seven local amateur artists from around the Fylde have been published in the books and presented with prizes for their efforts. I have every faith that with the last book “Spiritworld” more local talent will be discovered.
The aim of Cleveleys Seafront Partnership is to work with and develop interest between groups and individuals around the Cleveleys area, to enhance the diverse cultural activities of local people. All activities aim to unite people with an intergenerational approach through a wide range of activities. Art is regarded as a major theme in the many events and projects that will develop within the overall portfolio of activities around the sea front.
It is therefore perceived that the wider outcomes of the art initiatives will continue in other projects: some of which will evolve into annual events. So it is recognised that this competition in a small way has introduced art projects into the mix of events that will hopefully develop a wider interest in art along the whole stretch of the promenade at Cleveleys. In addition the completed edition will include a mystery to solve! We regard the art projects overall as a unique way of giving local people an outlet for their creative interests, which in turn will encourage them to develop their talents in art in other ways.
Good luck on behalf of Fylde Community Arts Project’s, from:
Marjorie Nye author of the trilogy and Jane Littlewood Chair of Cleveleys Sea Front Partnership.
